Assel Jean-Pierre Jr. is a Haitian-American pianist, composer, and performer known for his electrifying fusion of Caribbean rhythm, Latin jazz, gospel, and classical influence.
A New York native raised in a musical family, Assel began playing piano at age three under the guidance of his father. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Classical Piano Performance and a Master’s in Jazz and Composition from the University of Central Florida, where he performed with the UCF Wind Ensemble and Women’s Choir.
As the leader of the Assel Jean-Pierre Jr Trio (piano, bass, and drums), he delivers high-energy, genre-blending performances rooted in Caribbean rhythm, Latin jazz, and gospel soul.
Assel has performed on prestigious stages including Carnegie Hall, and was featured in the NFL Pro Bowl Halftime Show (2018) alongside Jordan Fisher. His work spans concerts, international festivals, and high-profile productions, including Gospel Goes Classical, where he served as orchestrator, guest performer, and accompanist with a 42-piece orchestra, collaborating with artists such as BeBe Winans and Denyce Graves.
Deeply rooted in both sacred and contemporary music spaces, Assel has served as a musical director for major conferences and organizations, bringing excellence and versatility across genres and audiences.
Beyond the stage, he is a dedicated educator, producer, and audio engineer, leading JPSonic Studios and mentoring the next generation of musicians. His discography includes Hymns for Tots, Hymns of Meditation for the Soul, The 12 Days of Christmas, and projects that reflect his passion for music that inspires, heals, and connects.
