Bio

Assel Jean-Pierre Jr. is a Haitian-American pianist, composer, recording artist, and educator whose work bridges classical virtuosity, jazz improvisation, gospel expression, and the rhythmic traditions of the Caribbean and Latin America.

A New York native raised in a musical family, Assel began playing piano at age three under the guidance of his father. He holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano Performance and a Master’s degree in Jazz & Composition from the University of Central Florida, where he developed the distinctive artistic voice that now defines his performances and compositions.

His performance and educational work has taken him throughout the United States, Haiti, France, Greece, Switzerland, and Italy. In 2025, he appeared at Carnegie Hall as part of the prestigious Seven Pianists concert alongside internationally recognized artists including Joey Alexander, Valentina Lisitsa, Natalie Tenenbaum, Jimin Park, and the Altino Brothers. His performance credits also include the NFL Pro Bowl Halftime Show with Jordan Fisher, Gospel Goes Classical with a 42-piece orchestra, and numerous appearances as a soloist, collaborator, arranger, and music director.

As the leader of the Assel Jean-Pierre Trio, he delivers dynamic, genre-blending performances that combine jazz, Caribbean rhythms, Latin influences, gospel soul, and original compositions. Beyond the stage, he serves as Music Co-Director and Accompanist for the Ultimate International Performing Arts Summer Intensive in Italy and remains deeply committed to arts education through teaching, mentorship, and creative collaboration.

Whether performing in an intimate jazz club, luxury venue, international festival, or concert hall, Assel brings artistry, authenticity, and cultural storytelling to every performance, creating musical experiences that connect audiences across genres, cultures, and generations.
